If you are unable to access your Gmail account even after entering the correct credentials, your account might have been hacked by someone. In such a case, the only way to recover your hacked Gmail account is by resetting the password for your account. Below, you can find the step-by-step instructions to quickly reset the password and recover your compromised Gmail account.
4 Steps to Recover a Hacked Gmail Account
1.) Go to the Gmail Sign-in page, enter your User ID in the provided field and click on the Next button.
2.) Next, you will be prompted to enter your Gmail password, however as you are unable to access your account using the password you have, you will need to click on the “forgot password?” option.
3.) On the next screen, you will be asked to enter the last password you remember for your Gmail account. Simply enter the password you remember and click NEXT.
4.) Clicking on the Next button will direct you to the next page where you will have to verify yourself as the rightful owner of the hacked Gmail account.
NOTE: This step is important in order to recover your hacked Gmail account. In case you are unable to verify yourself as the rightful owner of the account, Gmail will not allow you to process further.
According to the account recovery options (phone number and email address) associated with your Gmail account, you will see the following options for verification. You will need to complete any one of these options.
• You will be prompted to get a Security Code on your account recovery Phone number. You will need to enter it on the subsequent screen to complete the verification.
• You will be prompted to get Security Code on your account recovery Email Address. You will need to enter it on the subsequent screen to complete the verification.
• In the next option, you could be asked to enter the date when you created this Google Account (Month and Year).
• You could be prompted to answer a security question.
If you are unable to complete any of the above-given options, you would be asked to provide an email address that you can access at the moment. This option will help if you use an email that is already linked to your Gmail account.
A verification code will be sent from Google to that email. You will need to enter the code on the subsequent screen. If Google verifies it, you will be allowed to process further to recover your account.
5.) After your account gets verified successfully, you will be directed to the Password Reset page. Simply enter your new password in the provided fields and click on the Change Password option. The password for your account will get reset.
6.) Then, you will be taken to the next page where you will be prompted to review your account recovery information. After reviewing your account recovery options, click Done and follow the on-screen prompts (if any) to access your Gmail account.
