Gmail Not Working in Google Chrome; How to Fix?

Google Chrome is one of the most preferred web browsers when it comes to accessing your Gmail account. While it is rare that you may have trouble with your Gmail account on Chrome browser, however, should you ever find the email service performing slow or not loading correctly, you can consider the basic troubleshooting steps suggested below.

Ways to Fix “Gmail Not Working in Google Chrome” Problem

  1. Check Your Internet Connection

The most common cause of Gmail not working in Google Chrome is a problem with your internet network. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to make sure that your internet network is functioning properly. For this, open a random website on your browser and see if it is loading properly. If you can’t access the website, it means the problem is with your internet and you will need to fix it first. However, if the website loads as expected, your internet is working properly.  You can skip to the next workaround.

  1. Keep Your Chrome Browser Up-to-Date

Using an outdated Chrome browser can also be responsible for causing issues accessing certain websites including Gmail. So, it is important to keep your Chrome browser running with the latest updates. To know how to check Chrome browser for updates, follow these steps:

  • Launch Chrome web browser on your computer and click or tap on the More menu option (three vertical dots) located on the top-right corner of the screen. This will display a drop-down menu on your screen.
  • From the drop-down menu, select the Help Doing so will expand further options from where you will need to select the “About Google Chrome” option.
  • On the next page, if you find that update is available, simply install it and restart your web browser. You can then check if the problem with Gmail is fixed or not.

In most cases, following the above-mentioned steps should help you overcome the problem with Gmail on Chrome. However, if the problem persists, you can consider resetting the browser to its default settings. Here are the steps that you can follow to reset the Chrome browser.

  • Click or tap on the More menu option (three vertical dots) located in the upper-right corner.
  • From the drop-down menu that will appear on your screen, select the Settings
  • From the settings section, click or tap on the Advanced option located in the left-hand side panel.
  • Under the Advanced section, select the Reset and clean up option, and then press the Restore settings to their original defaults
  • Then, simply follow the on-screen prompts to complete the reset process.
